A Raisin in the Sun

Cherokee Street Development League (a nonprofit that seeks to promote arts and cultural programming on Cherokee Street & South City STL) with Encore! Theater Group aim to bring Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun to life.

Set in Chicago’s South Side, A Raisin in the Sun charts the divergent dreams of three generations of an African-American family struggling to forge an identity in a racially segregated world. As one of the most powerful and beloved American plays ever written, it illustrates the family’s struggle for dignity, a better life, and the backlash that erupts “deferred dreams”.
